In observance of Black Philanthropy Month, The Prosperity Foundation announces #GiveBlackCT Day of Giving Campaign

August 15, 2019

Black Philanthropy Month (BPM), held every August, was created in August 2011 by Dr. Jackie Copeland-Carson and the Pan-African Women's Philanthropy Network (PAWPNet) as an annual, global celebration of African-descent giving. Recognized by the United Nations as part of its Declaration of 2011 as the International Year for People of African Descent, and declared by Congressman Keith Ellison, with proclamations from Minnesota’s governor and the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul, we invite all Black communities and their allies to take August and beyond to promote the power of giving to transform lives. Primary aims of BPM are informing, involving, inspiring and investing in Black philanthropic leadership to strengthen African-American and African-descent giving in all its forms. A new organizing concept frames the BPM campaign each year. (www.blackphilanthropymonth.com).

The Prosperity Foundation is an independent community foundation designed to address critical areas of health, education and economic development in Connecticut’s Black communities. TPF has the features of a community foundation, including donor-advised funds, educational events, giving circles, and other forms of philanthropy. Through TPF, philanthropy has been the path to grant making and has been a portal for over 50 organizations who are serving the community through which Connecticut’s Black societies and other interested parties can connect and collectively contribute to improving conditions and opportunities for the community.

We invite you to give to The Prosperity Foundation on Thursday, August 15, 2019 for #GiveBlackCT.  This 24-hour campaign of receiving donations will allow for the programs and initiatives of The Prosperity Foundation to reach more communities, resulting in more opportunities for real change in Black Communities.  You may choose to give at any time in the month of August, but the campaign will officially close at 11:59 PM on August 15, 2019.  Donations may be mailed to our office: The Prosperity Foundation; 1287 Chapel St. New Haven, CT 06511 or online at www.tpfct.org.  For more information, contact Orsella R. Hughes, Consultant at 203-909-1315 or email, orsella@tpfct.org.
