NEW HAVEN, CT (August 13, 2025) – The Prosperity Foundation's CEO and Board of Directors today issued a formal communication to its grantees, funders, and donors addressing its mention in recent news coverage relating to the federal grand jury proceedings investigation of Senator Dough McCrory.
In response to the organization's reference in the media, The Prosperity Foundation's leaders wrote reaffirming that the organization has not been accused of wrongdoing and remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency, accountability, and service to Black communities across Connecticut:
"As you may be aware, recent media coverage of a federal grand jury investigation into the award and distribution of certain public grants and funds has included references to The Prosperity Foundation (TPF) among several other nonprofit and state entities.
While we have received a subpoena for documents as part of the ongoing investigation, our foundation has not been accused of any wrongdoing, and we have been advised that we are not a target of the government’s investigation.
Please be assured that we remain unwavering in our commitment to transparency, integrity, and the communities we serve. Since its founding, TPF has operated with a clear and focused mission: to create unique impacts in Black communities throughout Connecticut by investing in organizations that address health, education, and economic disparities. Our vision remains steadfast to create healthy, thriving Black communities throughout the State of Connecticut.
Through coordinated, focused efforts and responsible community-centered philanthropy, we remain dedicated to creating a sustainable system of support that meets the unique needs of Connecticut's Black communities.
We have retained counsel to assist with our response to the subpoena, and are cooperating fully and transparently with the investigation. It is of the utmost importance to us to ensure that our work continues to meet the highest standards of accountability and impact.
We deeply value your partnership, the important work you do, and the trust you place in us. As we continue to work closely with our legal team and more information becomes available, we will provide updates as permissible
To our funders, donors, and grantmaking partners:
We take our responsibility as stewards of philanthropic resources seriously. Accountability, transparency, and community-centered practices are core to our values and operations, and we are committed to ensuring these remain uncompromised throughout this process.
We are honored by your continued trust and investment in our mission. It is your mutual commitment to this work that makes our ongoing impact possible. Our partnership with each and every one of our funders ensures that our mission is sustainable, our commitments to communities are lasting, and that our legacy is secured in the Black community and beyond."
